Canada visa updates

Canadian study permits remain a top pathway for Sri Lankan students — but requirements and processing expectations continue to evolve. Here is what to prepare for in 2026.

Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL)

Most applicants to college and undergraduate programs must include a Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL) from the province where their institution is located. Universities and designated learning institutions (DLIs) will guide eligible students, but delays in PAL issuance can affect intake timing — plan at least four to six months before your course start date.

Financial proof & GIC

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) expects clear evidence that you can cover tuition, living costs, and travel. Many students use a Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) alongside bank statements and sponsor letters. Figures are updated periodically; we verify the current minimums for each application cycle.

Documentation checklist

  • Valid passport and digital photos meeting IRCC specifications
  • Letter of acceptance from a DLI with a valid DLI number
  • Statement of purpose aligned with your academic and career goals
  • Academic transcripts, English/French test results where required
  • Medical exam (if requested) and police certificates when applicable

Processing timelines

Processing times vary by country and volume. Submit complete, consistent files the first time — gaps or mismatched dates between your SOP, résumé, and financial documents are a common reason for delays or refusals. Our legal and counseling team reviews every file before submission.
